Ford Racing Capri 1971
This 1971 Ford Capri RS was definitly only driven on race tracks. A few clear indicators are the fine revisions of the bodywork to adapt racing parts as well as the roll cage and leight weight outer panels. Overall the body is in good shape. Not too many corrosion damage. Biggest rework will be the repair of an impact on the rear RHS.
Body after Paint Stripping
The pure metal shows just a few corrosion damages, as expected.
Turning and Straightening Devices
The adapters for the turning device was made by hand as usual. We have been very lucky to buy an original Celette adapter set for Capri 1.
Repair of Rear End
The repair of the Rear End touches almost every single panel in that area. The Back Panel could be found as NOS. Body Side Outers and Rear Floor came from Donors. All racing specific reworks have been redone as original as possible.
Repair of Front End
After repair of lower and upper A Pillars on both sides, we spent most of the time on the lower front end panel. There are almost almost no spare part available, so we decided to manufacture the necessary panels. The result is very satisfying, as we also checked the fit and finish of the hole front end with a very good result!
Rework of Roll Cage
The installed works cage needs to be updated in terms of pipe dimensions, to allow racing the car later on FIA race events. Therefore most of the pipes need to be rebuild with proper homologated materials and refitted to the body. That is done in our shop on a manual pipe bending device.
Next Steps
After a rough fit of the Fiber Glass outer surface parts, our Capri will get a test assembly af all body parts to detect unused and wrong holes and openings, whicll will be closed and corrected. After final finish of the steel body, it will get another chemical cleaning and priming. Then we are reay to finally fit all outer surface parts befor we hand it over to the paint shop.
